Superb fellows and useful interpretation, inspiring me to add this unit to my 15mm collection! |

John…I felt there was a disturbance in The Farce… Of course I should have known it was you and your Pimp Hats… Eric |

Shoulda come up, Eric. The Coolie Railroad Laborers Local 26 survived to a man by running away, while the Royal Marines were decimated. As for deLancey's… We've had that discussion before. As I said to Jim, "I'm right, you're wrong." |

Very nicely done, though if those are supposed to be men of color, that would not be correct – at least in the British army – Loyalist or not. Likely too the unit would all have the same color hats since they were issued once a year to all the men in each regiment. Aslo, spontoons were not carried by Crown troops. All officers were expected to carry a fusil instead. Did DeLancey's ever wear green facings? I've only seen/read about them in blue? But again, these are nice to look at. |

Rudy Scott Nelson indicates they wore black or white hats with black feathers in the south HG. Unfortunately he doesn't indicate his source. |

Delaney is well covered in magazine articles and books. My source was a combination of books, articles, post cards and secondary sources that used primary sources. My articles have always been primers, encouraging the reader to do their own research and not spoon feeding them. If you cited every single comment in regards to units or uniforms your article would not be long and burdened with citations. Writing for scholarly glory and ego is different than writing for popular consumption. |

Thank you for the clarification Rudy. Delaney's uniforms may be clear to you, but to me in the late war they are as clear as mud. What little primary source information I find tends to be short on details. For example Innes reports a large number of hats being available for distribution to Loyalist troops in New York and Charleston in 1781. I cannot find information about the color, how the hats were worn or exactly when they were issued. That is why I tend to rely on conclusions of people like you. |

I based mine on Mollo. Blue coats, red facings, the **** hat. It's not my problem if they couldn't make up their minds over coat color or facings. On occasion, they have been Guards or some other regiment. |

So I wonder what the supporting documentation is for white hats? Yes, the facing colors seemed to change over the years, I am guessing due to whatever was available to them. |
