For anyone interested in making some simple, but effective-looking terrain on a budget, I have shared a post on my blog (https://fortheloveofterrain.blogspot.com/2020/11/how-to-guide-building.html), which walks through how I made a rural cottage/hut suitable for use somewhere in the Mediterranean, Balkans or southern Europe.

My main interest is in WWII, but this sort of building is timeless and would therefore probably be suitable going back at least a couple of hundred years.

The blog piece is quite long, mainly due to the volume of photos documenting each step, but the project itself is pretty easy. Regarding budget, it cost almost nothing because it was mostly made from cardboard boxes picked out of the rubbish (trash for our US cousins).

I hope you find it useful.

Let's try a direct link because this is great;

The pantiles especially work just brilliantly. Totally atmospheric esp if you see one photo of real rooftops in……. maybe the Balkans? Reminds me of Dubrovnik from the walls

Good tutorial. I made something similar for 'Back of Beyond' China. My roofs were much simpler. See in lower right corner.

Thanks for posting the link again, Deadhead. No idea why it didn't work when I did it…I inserted the URL in the way that I normally do.

Thanks for the positive feedback.

@ColCampbell – have you got any close up photos? I am always interested to see how others have tackled the same project and learn something new.
