"As many will know, Ii Naomasa (井 伊 直 政) was born on March 4, 1561 and passed away on March 24, 1602. He was a samurai of the Sengoku period of the daimyō (and later shōgun) Tokugawa Ieyasu. His family originally has been vassals of the Imagawa clan, but after the death of the leader, Imagawa Yoshimoto, during the Battle of Okehazama, Naomasa was lucky to escape in the midst of the confusion while still very young. Naomasa joined the Tokugawa clan in the mid-1570s, where he rose through the ranks to become a daimyō of the Ōmi Province after the Battle of Sekigahara in 1600…"
