I have not played BRS but the concepts seem very similar. It inspired my to try my own mash up of DIF and BTH. Found here:

Enjoy

DIF?

Not really like at all. DIF assumes only two planes. Blood Red Skies has squadrons fighting each other.

VS,
apologize i should have clarified. DIF stands for Down In Flames an aerial card game.
Dexter
good point. DIF really taps out at 2 flights per side. 4-6 fighters per side is the sweat spot. the concepts seem similar with advantage aircraft and such. how do they have a player handle a dozen plus fighters per side?

thanks

Blood Red Skies is very streamlined, and rewards formation keeping because of the rules on wingmen. Works well and a single player can easily handle a dozen planes. Very nice set of rules; has superseded Bag the Hun for me, which I enjoy but is very slow by comparison.

Dexter,
thanks for the explanation. I would guess combat results are not too granular.
Either destroyed, damaged or okay. :( would keep the game fast.
tempting but wish you could get the cards without the aircraft. do you use the aircraft or your own?
thanks

'damage' mostly goes on the squadron, not the plane (except for multi-engine planes). It's more of a morale thing. You do take extra boom chits when planes are shot down – but than can only happen to disadvantaged planes, and you can only shoot at planes at a lower advantage level. So the game is all about out manoeuvring and getting on the tail. The cards are available separately as the RAF and Luftwaffe expansions. I initially played with my existing 1:600 models, but the 1:200 Warlord planes are nice, and the stands speed the game up. Many of the stats on the cards are available for free online; the cards add the planes characteristics like tight turn for spitfire, superior dive and climb for me109 and so on.
