Late 1944: a new line of Yankee infantry models is released, wearing totally revised uniform (called in the accompanying background article as the Mark 43 Combat Battlesuit). White Dwarf runs a painting article for the uniforms, providing a number of new colour schemes. In a footnote to this article, Jervis Johnson mentions that the models in the old-style uniforms are no longer considered to be "Patton approved" and are thus no longer allowed in tournaments or other official occasions. Old school gamers grumble and moan about this change in the uniforms (plus the accompanying 25% price increase), and how they old models are no longer worth a squat. Many also claim that the older models were more aesthetically pleasing, and that the new models sport ugly jackets and ridiculously oversized pockets. Many gamers also claim that it is totally unrealistic for an army to go changing uniforms in the middle of a war, and that no real world military would ever do so. Some people, who claim to have watched several shows on History Channel and thus think they know what they are talking about, support this by claims that "Napoleonic Wars could have never happened if armies of the period would have been changing their uniforms all the time – the soldiers would have been too busy changing the dress to have any time left for fighting". What's "beardy" and "cheesy" mean in relation to GW products? |
Griefbringer | 02 Sep 2008 6:34 a.m. PST |
Cheesy = unbalanced/overpowered unit or force. Beardy = player who likes to field unbalanced/overpowered forces. Griefbringer |

The biggest guns available would have an effecctive range about ten times that of infantry officers' sidearms. The optimum tactic for most armies in most situations would be to charge their troops into hand to hand combat as soon as possible. |

That's a good point- the mythical Polish cavalry charge would actually be the most destructive thing available. That and Kommisar with chainsaw. |
