I think it kind of depends on what caused the apocolyse

First thing we do after the apocalypse is kill all the non-cooperators. Then we'll be able to recover, amirite?

It would probably recover much faster if there were no human survivors.

Well, if all the idiot groups of survivors in the Walking Dead had cooperated instead of killing each other the show could have wrapped up years ago :)

Much longer then anyone could imagine. We live in an extremely complex interconnected world. Most of us couldn't last a week without a trip to the grocery store, which will have empty shelves after the distribution system is interrupted and looters have stolen everything. You'd discover that after your long walk because there would be no driving your car anymore because a breakdown in fuel distribution.

"kill all the non-cooperators"

Sounds like socialism, no Communism.

Sounds like the Mongols, actually.

This was actually addressed in The Postman (both the book and the movie).

The book implied that the recovery from the holocaust could have happened fairly quickly if some elements had resisted the desire to play warlord.

The movie carried it further and suggested once the 'every man for himself' element got tamped down, it took a generation or so to rebuild.

Of course, your mileage may very depending on the apocalypse of your choosing.

To paraphrase a former Presidential Chief of Staff, "Never let a good apocalypse go to waste."

I'll let you know, when and if we do…….

Isn't this the repeating theme of the "Walking Dead" so many leaders some many "roads back."
