"Finding kale and quinoa has never been easier than it is right now. Oreos and Spam, not so much. We know about the toilet paper and hand sanitizer shortages. There are other problems. I've visited at least five grocers in the last week in my Los Angeles neighborhood, and the processed foods shelves are empty. That problem is not only occurring here. Food giants like General Mills and Campbell Soup are experiencing sales gains between 10-20 percent. Popcorn, pretzels, and potato chips are even higher, between 30-48 sales increases over this time last year…" Main page link Amicalement Armand

You can keep the kale and quinoa. |

With sufficient butter and bacon even quinoa can be made edible. x42 |

The article is from 24 March 2020 and reflects conditions of those times. We never buy potato chips just for ourselves, but when the shelter-in-place started, we bought and ate potato chips. That lasted a few weeks. Then we went back to our usual quinoa-kale-and-bacon diet (actually more sticky rice, okra, and pork sausage) and people who usually bought potato chips could find it on the shelves again. |

I remember back then, the meat shelves were nearly empty, but the mock meat was in excellent supply. |

Judging from the frequency and wheedling of the non-meat meat ads on TV "They" have decided to prepare us for Soylent products in our future. |

I'm not sure what the health indicator was. In Marche people were buying more junkfood at the grocery because they didn't pick it up at the convenience store on the way back from McDonad's. March does seem like a long time ago. Recently SWMBO and I had a nearly vegan two weeks. The farmers' markets are closing for the season (prior to the Holiday tree party), so we got 2 12"x12"x18" boxes of fresh veggies for $40. USD Ignore the plate of pumpkin spice cookies on the island in the kitchen … |

What's wrong with Oreos and Spam? The breakfast of champions, I think, or maybe it was the breakfast of chimpanzees. BTW, did anyone else notice the inconsistency, in the first paragraph he's talking about shortages in TP and hand sanitizer and the next paragraph he talking about General Mills and Campbells experiencing great increases in sales figures? |

With sufficient butter and bacon even quinoa can be made edible. Now that's a stretch!!! |

I'm trying to gain weight, so anybody that tries to steal food from my plate is in for a world of hurt… ;-) My dad would tell me a story about some guy from his platoon who tried to pilfer some other guys dessert at mess and ended with a fork stuck in his hand. |
