I was searching through YouTube and found this video. I have not seen the movie, but interesting to see the size of Napoleonic formations. A lot of CGI but still looks like a movie I would check out.

That was awesome, right up my alley too

The canister effects look spot on.

Not the first post on this film, but that is the longest sequence I have yet seen. It looks very good. I look forward to getting the DVD as I expect it is the only way I will get to see the film.

Also thought that canister fire sequence was as realistic as I can imagine.

Jeffers26 Oct 2020 1:43 a.m. PST

Looks good. I like the way those missed by canister stand stoically at attention. Must be using the Stubborn Russian rule!

A soldier's wisdom which I read in Prussian memoirs of the Napoleonic period:

If you stick to your assigned place in the formed unit and you are hit, it is God's will. If you leave your assigned place and you are hit, it is your own fault.

I too was impressed (horrified?) by the recreation of the effect of the canister discharges.

Thanks for sharing the link, MarbotsChasseurs.

No sheets of exploding gasoline anywhere to be seen!

Correct me if I am wrong please, but is this link not the full movie? YouTube link

So close. I will still have to await the version with English sub titles. The more I see of this film, the more I want to see it.

Not one to shy away from a movie in Russian I can't understand, the visual is fun viewing enough.

14Bore,

I must admit I watched the majoritiy of it even though I couldn't understand a word! The Russians know how to make a war movie.

14Bore29 Oct 2020 11:17 a.m. PST

Started it, wondering if it has anything to do with Tolstoy supposed saga of War and Peace moving into the main characters children turning into the Decemberists?
Wish I followed my dream of learning Russian in High school at the peak of the Cold War.

Unfortunately, the link to the whole movie has just been taken down by Youtube.

A 26 minutes version of the battle, in good quality, here:

I also like the detail which has been put in recreating all the different Russian decorations, I even saw a "Kulm cross".

Does anyone know what the officer who is a defector says at 8:25 to the revolutionaries? They all look shocked! I can only imagine he said he didn't bring the cannons.

14Bore30 Oct 2020 11:45 a.m. PST

Watched the last 15 minutes this morning. I had a idea what was going on but a refresh of even Wiki would have been a good idea before watching not after.
Remembered it was a high ranking officer who was murdered but forgot it was Miloradovich.
Sad I didn't understand a word, but thought it was great movie to watch anyway.
