As a young boy, I came to a crossroad, and decided to walk away from my model airplane collection. The glorious models got attached to fire crackers, others were quietly put into a bin.
I went to a relatives place and saw his collection displayed in glass cabinets throughout his house. Impressive, but I thought that was not for me.
The penultimate expression of miniatures was to have them out, moving them about, outmanoeuvring your opponent and making "pew-pew" noises.
In these COVIDSafe times, I read somewhere that this is a multifaceted hobby.
Researching uniforms/battles, buying books, going on the internet, painting, buying new rule sets have become the norm- playing a miniature battle with an opponent a rare treat.
So now I have 1/144 scale ww2 planes, Russian, German, Japanese, British and American, 1/300 WW1, Crimson Skies-Fasa, 1/300 seaplane (inspired by Porco Rosso), homebrewed ruleset, all coming together in the last 8 months, not played, making a nice display on the mantle. 🤪👍🏼

Next thing you need is a blog to post pictures of them!

It's a big hobby. I like almost all of it. I'm not crazy about dioramas, though. I don't like games where it's important to guess ranges. I do have a display shelf, though. grin

Imagine the fireworks display you could have now!

I can't deny I have bought a few Tamiya kits, for the pleasure of building them, rather than for their use on the war game table.
Whilst I admire well constructed and painted kits, I can't do decals well, so I make the kits to a tabletop standard.
The days of freeform fireworks of my youth have sadly passed my domain.
Did not think I'd be making model airplane "kits", thought that time had passed.

Glad to hear it.

Enjoy!

Is there anywhere that still has the old Airfix model kits available?

Try vintage-airfix dot com and oldmodelkits dot com

>models got attached to fire crackers

Wow. Memories. Back in the day, dad's BB gun off the back deck at ships in drydock and floating and planes parked on the rocks.

Smoke bombs worked well too!
