"As we approach the second anniversary of the state-sponsored assassination of Saudi journalist Jamal Khashoggi, Saudi Arabia continues its retreat, losing direction and influence in the Gulf and Middle East regions.

More than 50 years after the Saudi kingdom began its rise to regional and international prominence as the leading member of OPEC and the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), it now finds itself on a path of steady decline…"

Al-jazeera is not a news source you should link to.

arealdeadone17 Oct 2020 7:18 a.m. PST

Especially as Al-Jazeera is Qatari and Qatar is an enemy of Saudi Arabia.

True, but don't you think that all news sources are tainted to some degree. Several years ago, before it went under, I use to watch Al-Jazeera America. They would often show stories which were not being reported by the other networks, which I found refreshing. We've reached a dangerous point when all news sources are controlled by just a few mega conglomerates.

I find it interesting watching 'alternative' news sources like this or Russia Today. They do make you think about different points of view.

Just remember where the funding for the news-source is coming from. Same as ALL news-sources really…

I agree !

That seems to be true worldwide. E.g. "If you don't read the newspaper you are uninformed. And if you do read the newspaper you are misinformed. " – Mark Twain

Who can told you what is "fake news" today or not?…

Propaganda is fake news and has been around forever.
The term fake news was started by ignorant people.

If you don't read the newspaper you are uninformed. And if you do read the newspaper you are misinformed. "

With all due respect to the late great Samuel Clemens, today it's more "If you don't watch the news you are uninformed. And if you do watch the news your views and opinions are reinforced."

Liberals follow CNN and MSNBC. Conservatives Fox News and Breitbart.

Yes, I know it's more today … but his intent is clear.

Yes, I watch Fox and very rarely CNN. I wouldn't watch MSNBC unless I had a gun to my head !!!

Rudy. Fake News or Propaganda are the same thing. Five years from now it most likely be called by a new term. It will still be the same thing. The best one can do is be a student of history so you have a good knowledge of what has happened. Then you need varied sources of information that is current. Then you need to evaluate your info with a fair mind.
