One of Ged's earliest releases but particularly well painted so I thought worth showing. I have used thsi figure twice, once as he comes but once as Sgt Bob Thoms on the Dong Ba Tower. for that he needed a Perry Mahdist bare right leg transplant, but that is a long story!

Cannot resist again showing my conversion, if only to respect the late Bob Thoms. Right trouser (USMC, overalls) leg ripped open. Helmet cover (Mitchell) half burnt off and two layers of grey (gray) T shirts somehow obtained to replace burnt kit.

On the Dong Ba Tower, Hue Citadel, when I was 15 and gripped by the BBC News every night.

Story goes that he went "Commando" and constantly had to "adjust" his rig which was awkward as he famously made it into Life in full colour, as Olsen and that Japanese chap were there photographing everything that day.

Is it true that in high humidity conditions, the US troops all went 'commando'? There is an episode in The 13th Valley where Cherry is caught wearing boxers and warned they will rot his ****** off.

His trick was to minimise his exposure, (to the enemy, not the US public) of course.

My impression of his service on the Dong Ba Tower, is that he must have had the size of cojones that needed much concealment, plus he merited the Medal of Honour (Honor) of Congress. Heck, they all did.

Deadhead some of the heaviest fighting was for the Dong Ba Tower..and even naval artillery initially had no effect..still the Marines fought their way through.A tremendous achievment!
