… Return To Disputed Waters In Eastern Mediterranean

"Greece has accused neighbour Turkey of undermining efforts to ease a crisis over drilling rights in the eastern Mediterranean after the announcement that a Turkish survey vessel is being prepared to renew a research mission in disputed waters.

The Turkish research ship Oruc Reis will operate "from 12 to 20 October" in the same region it was exploring in August and September, including the area south of the Greek island of Kastellorizo, according to the message sent by the maritime alert system NAVTEX…"

That map is terrible. – A better one:

The Libyan and Turkish claims are completely irrational when you look at that map!

Yes that is a better map.

Yes, the Greeks & Turks have been disagreeing and fighting for a very, very long time. All the Greeks I know have nothing good to say about the Turks.

Battle of Salamis comes to mind…

I have no idea how the Turks and Libyans (probably under Turkish direction) think it's rational to claim waters that close to Greek islands such as Crete.

Seems like they are looking for a reason to fight.

"All the Greeks I know have nothing good to say about the Turks".

With good reason.

So, what happens if 2 Nato allies end up fighting it out?

@ arealdeadone
Your map isn't complete either.
Turkey also claims the part of the zone belonging to Greece that's surrounded by the various other zone's Turkey (Illegally) claims.
A legal base for ALL these claims is non existent.
It's a shameless "land grabbing" scheme carried out by an aggressor nation, and it should be dealt with as such.
No "peace for our time" this time please.

I have friends who are Greek and Turkish. Living in the USA, neither wants to talk about the situation.
Back in 1977 a Turkish officer, Gave me a book in English describing the Turkish version of the Cyprus situation.

Greece is ranked #33 in military strength on the Global Firepower Index, while Turkey is slotted at #11 ahead of Germany and Italy. No wonder Turkey is flexing its ottoman muscles everywhere.

"All the Greeks I know have nothing good to say about the Turks".

And what did the Turks said about the Greeks?… (smile)

Good old fashioned territorial disputes..This how regional wars start.

Yeah… Don't know any Turks, but pretty sure most won't have much good to say about Greeks either!
