Gentlemen, come along, this is a lacklustre performance by the denizens of this board. This place just isn't the same with everyone here and nobody barred. So here are some topics sure to get that Dawghouse trading again. Did England win the battle of Waterloo because Napoleon attacked English lines in column? Did England win the War of 1812 by adopting German tactics? How many people did Napoleon murder, including slaves? Whose was the third-best artillery system, France's or Austria's? "Napoleon was great because he had two artillery systems and everyone else didn't." Discuss. Over to you… |

Yes..Probably…1….Austrias…exactly…. |

You will get in the Dawghouse for saying 'England' instead of 'Britain' let alone anything else! |
deadhead | 11 Oct 2020 5:16 a.m. PST |
So how short was Napoleon really? Did the Prussians contribute anything significantly to Waterloo? The Middle Guard climbed that ridge. Why will no-one accept that? The Gribeauval system beat the An XI system any day surely? how long did it take to train a French drummer then? |
Gazzola | 11 Oct 2020 6:24 a.m. PST |
Well, I never thought I'd see someone actually make a post or moan about the dawghouse being empty? Surely that means people are actually debating and listening to other's people's points of view and opinions, rather than lowering themselves to personal abuse, such as claiming that negative facts posted must mean those doing the posting must hate their country or worship a historical character. It can't possibly be actual, fact! So come on, these are good times! Rejoice. And I'm sure those now complaining would much prefer the civilised debates and fact sharing than the insulting, repetitive arguments that some people seemed to want to offer instead? Surely knowledge and learning is far more acceptable and agreeable than negative entertainment. Surely? LOL |

4th Cuirassier | 11 Oct 2020 7:42 a.m. PST |
The Middle Guard climbed that ridge towing An XI 8-pounders on the end of aurore bricoles. They attacked in the wrong place because Napoleon was too short to see over them. The bricoles of the line were French Artillery Green, which is to say brown. The first person to get dawghoused wins the thread. |
dragon6 | 11 Oct 2020 7:53 a.m. PST |
OK I volunteer to be doghoused but …. the Middle Guard climbed that ridge? Sorry what ridge? What battle? I am, obviously, ill educated. |

Did England win the battle of Waterloo because Napoleon attacked English lines in column? -I agree! Did England win the War of 1812 by adopting German tactics? -I agree! How many people did Napoleon murder, including slaves? -I agree! Whose was the third-best artillery system, France's or Austria's? -I agree! "Napoleon was great because he had two artillery systems and everyone else didn't." -I agree! I think that a more pressing debate is that floppy little French hat (bonnet de police) that could be rolled up and stored under the cartouche pouch. When you paint your figures that have the floppy hat on, do you cut it off the pouch, or is your French soldier doomed to carry 2 floppy hats around for eternity. A logical follow up is the Pokalem: does it also roll up and neatly tuck up under the pouch? And a logical follow up to that question: where is his shako? Quack, quack. |

Thresher01 | 11 Oct 2020 1:03 p.m. PST |
Hmmm, a pity no one has bothered to point out that Napoleonic War tactics are just Warhammer 40K ones adopted by a time traveller, and taken back to the previous era. Time travel tends to shrink people, due to dehydration caused by the time-dilation process, which is why Napoleon was so short. |

Hey, Legion! I had my own furnished room! And a beer cooler behind the Raquel Welch poster. I could have had a tunnel, but with a 3 day sentence, what's the point? It's like Merle breaking out of juvie to be sent to San Quentin. |

BFD John, they built ME my own wing!!! (smile) Who needs a poster if you have Raquel? |

Did England win the battle of Waterloo because Napoleon attacked English lines in column? No, Ireland and Scotland did. Did England win the War of 1812 by adopting German tactics? What did they win? "Napoleon was great because he had two artillery systems and everyone else didn't." At least he kept them apart on separate sides of Western Europe. Did the Prussians contribute anything significantly to Waterloo? Controversy. The Middle Guard climbed that ridge. Why will no-one accept that? People get too caught up in nomenclature. How long did it take to train a French drummer then? One battle. |

Over the years TMP has become tame, especially the Napoleonic Boards. We had in the day the reputation for being, um, rambunctious, especially in the days of Mad Hoffy. Sad to say too many good people have become fed up with TMP and have left, I come more from habit than anything else. Let's face it the site is slowly dying. |

"Gentlemen ( and I use the term very loosely), not one of you has quoted the sources for your erudite but frankly ridiculous assertions". There is no need. It is clear to most that my assertion is spot on, AND only logical. |

If I call you an omodhaun, is that a personal attack? I don't think the Editors speak Irish. My Grandma did. It's not a compliment. |

Wellington would have understood because he was Irish, not British. Mike Oldfield made an album called omodhaun. link |
