North Korea unveiled previously unseen intercontinental ballistic missiles at an unprecedented predawn military parade on Saturday that showcased the country's long-range weapons for the first time in two years…

Big missile. Big transporter. No masks.

"Big missile. Big transporter. No masks".

That all sounds quite dangerous.

Is the missile even operational or is it just ruse? Could be plastic mock-up. But the safe bet it is functioning weapon.

Just like the Russians or PRC, you can't believe anything they say or do. But be prepared …

Those tires don't look like they're under any real load, so I suspect that those really big "missiles" are just hollow tubes with fancy nose cones attached.

That's what the Soviets did back in the day, to scare the West.

On a somewhat related note, can you imagine the cost of having to purchase new tires for those mobile "launchers", not to mention the complexity of properly aligning ALL those wheels at once. What a nightmare.

Yes, in most parades you see in e.g. Russian, Iran, and North Korea those missile containers are empty and the open rockets or missiles are dummies.

But it makes a great parade for the locals !

Interesting the top 3 nations tank strengths :

#1 Russia 12900

#2 USA 6890

#3 North Korea 6045

Now how many of the North Korean's tanks are new/top of the line ? IMO probably many are like the rest of much of their weapons … older.

Well, I'm not a rocket scientist, but…

You got your liquid fueled rockets and your solid fueled rockets. Solid fuel requires a lot more tech, but is necessary for missiles carried on airplanes, etc. The biggest ever were the boosters for the space shuttle. They are much more convenient, but more difficult to design and build. All US sub-launched missiles were solid fueled, all Russian SLBMs were liquid fueled until 2014. Liquid fueling requires the fuel to be stored separately, and the rocket is fueled immediately before launch. Virtually all ICBMs are liquid fueled.

It's extremely unlikely that is a solid fueled rocket. The North Koreans did launch a large, solid-fueled rocket recently, but nowhere near that large.

So if it's empty of fuel it's actually pretty light. I can imagine moving it on eleven axles, though I would expect more double wheels. And of course, for each launcher you need a truck full of fuel and a truck full of oxidizer, all cryogenically stored, with the equipment to quickly transfer the fuel. You have to be quick, because once you start you're a sitting duck and everyone knows what you're doing.

But they're probably fake. After all, "pre-dawn parade"? Doesn't that seem like the answer to "how do we show this thing off without anyone getting a good look?"

But they don't need masks, there's no covid in North Korea.

Yes Un reported they have no COVID in his country. And the PRC said they only had 5000 deaths from COVID. So there ya go !

It's probably a deliberate display piece.

It would be a dangerous proposition to drive a truck containing thousands of litres of volatile fuel down a main road at a massive parade that includes party leadership.

And for same reason any warheads would be left at base especially if its a nuclear tipped one.

Any real or operational missiles would be back at base together with all relevant security protocols.

Contrary to popular belief the Norks are not stupid or insane.

Stupid or insane Communist regimes don't survive for 30 years after the death of the USSR.

As for COVID – no masks here in Australia either.

We managed to contain our COVID pretty early on and even Victoria's second wave wasn't totally out of control unlike the USA or Brazil or now increasingly Britain, Spain, France etc and especially India.

Well, it is a serious health issue if they are not wearing masks. This is potentially worse than anything the missiles could do.

arealdeadone I agree with all you posted there about the missiles, Communists, etc.

This is potentially worse than anything the missiles could do.
Frankly we could only hope. Considering the Crimes against Humanity, etc. the Un regime commits on a daily basis. With 40% of their population starving and living in sub-standard conditions, etc.

As well as those in the many concentration camps in the country. Which rivals any Russian Gulag. And comes close to what the Nazis and Imperial Japan did in WWII.

Sad to even think this … some might be better off dead …
