Hello,

I have used LBM transfers for years very successfully and love them. Thing is, every time I have, I have used exactly the right transfer sheet for that matching scale / unit / manufacturers. Now I am considering going rogue.

I have some 25mm Numidian Spearmen from Old Glory that I would like to paint up as Liby-Phonecian spearmen. LBMS does not have a decal sheet specific to "Old Glory 25mm LibyPhonecian Spearmen" or "Numidian Spearmen." I am considering buying a transfer sheet that has the look I am going for, but might not be for the right manufacturer. Am I inviting disaster? Have others here used LBMS transfer sheets in 'un-approved' ways, on models other than those specific ones that LBMS designed the transfer sheet for? If I were to pick a decal sheet that looks like it might be a pretty close match in size and shape, am I likely to be able to make it work with perhaps a bit of extra trimming? Or is this all a bolluxed idea and I should just freehand everything?

I have used the Gripping Beast LBMS transfers on TAG Ottoman Sipahis. Some were much smaller than the shield so it was a case of a little trial and error to try and match the colour around the transfer. I was happy with ultimate result.

I've done it a lot. The easiest thing to do is to buy Gripping Beast shields, replace the Old Glory shields, and use the right decals.

I did that with 200 Foundry Republican Roman infantry/cavalry, as well my Foundry Numidians, and Mirliton Samnites.

You could contact LBMS and see if they can convert what you want. I did that years ago to get different color backgrounds for my Imperial Roman Legionaries.

I've tried both methods: tweaking the transfer and buying extra shields knowing the transfer will fit. I'm firmly in the camp of the latter. I find cutting out the transfers tedious enough without having to freelance. Most vendors will sell additional shields at a reasonable price. Unless you really like playing with scissors or have lots of free time, I'm with Lucius, match the right shield with the right decal.
