Why does the carrier have 2 'conning towers'?

Not like it used to be back in the olde days.

At least it had jets on board, instead of just helos or Red Bull Flugtag contestants.

The funny thing is that the 4 British escorts represent a whopping 25% of the THE WHOLE British surface combatant fleet and anywhere up to half to two thirds of the operational ships (ie excluding ships in maintenance or in training/working up).

Good luck sustaining that over time especially as number of actual combat capable surface vessels will drop to 14 over time (6 x Type 45 + 8 x Type 26, the 5 Type 31s will be large OPVs with no combat capabilities).

And the combat power carried on this cruise is pathetic too – 14 F-35s of which only 6 are British. No AEW&C or aerial tankers either.

It all reeks of sad propaganda especially recent speculation about F-35 buy being halved and slashing of tank and tracked IFV fleets.
