Following on from the awesome success and popularity of the "favourite tea" poll, what is your favourite coffee? Many wargamers I know like to sup on a cup f coffee during a game, perhaps the caffeine helps the tactical process? But what is your favourite? Given the choice – and the budget – I'd go for Jamaican Blue Mountain but it is stoopidly expensive and so my "go to" blend at the moment is Kenco Americano Intense. What's yours?

Kona from SWMBO's uncle's plantation in Hawaii. Mmmmmmm … good coffee.

He was a landscaper in San Francisco starting in the late 50's or early 60's. Lots of development in that area since then. Even a small slice is nice when it comes from a really big pie. So he was a plant guy, and retired to play with plants. The family discount makes it more expensive than I would pay for coffee, except: (i) it's really good, and (ii) he's family.

Did I mention that it is really good coffee?

'Coz it is.

As a Warrant Officer, it's the piping hot, black stuff in my cup.

Just saying.

I actually like Costa Americano…

Greg G103 Oct 2020 3:02 p.m. PST

Currently in my fridge, I have Kenyan, Indian, Indonesian and Vietnamese coffees each has it's own flavour and taste. I make up a litre of Kenyan coffee each Sunday, one mug hot and fresh the rest becomes ice coffee for breakfast each morning. Vietnamese has a lovely chocolate flavour to it.

Folger's

Doug MSC03 Oct 2020 3:17 p.m. PST

Duncan Donuts. It is very smooth and comes in different flavors.

I have had expensive coffee as well as wine, but my limits in price leave me with the average. Right now been liking Melita Hazelnut but usually 1/2 that with a plain coffee.

I got it as a gift last holiday season. I think it was called Black Rifle Company Five Finger Death Fist. I've tried many of the Black Rifle coffees, and this was by far the best.

Sumatra, Kona. With the understanding that quantity has a quality all of its own.

svsavory04 Oct 2020 7:49 a.m. PST

Sumatra, preferably purchased as whole beans and ground fresh myself.

Dukewilliam04 Oct 2020 8:36 a.m. PST

Tim Horton's.

Have to agree on Kona, first discovered it back in the 70s.
Of course, that is if you are having more than one cup.

But for that one special cup, LAVAZZA espresso with three sugars. Standard one cup morning and afternoon choice. Spent my last 10 years working for an Italian import and distribution company and three more part time after retiring.

My three favorites, in no particular order, are Turkish coffee, gafe boran (กาแฟโบราณ, literally, "ancient coffee"), and Vietnamese iced coffee.

I never know which brand of coffee is being used, of course, because I don't make them myself, but order them from, respectively, a cafe, a street vendor, or a Vietnamese restaurant.

I don't usually make my own coffee (despite my Finnish ancestry), so I don't have a favorite brand. I don't like Peet's or Starbucks, both of which are too strong and bitter for me.

Stew art04 Oct 2020 12:14 p.m. PST

I use cheap decaf coffee as a basing material for terrain and miniatures….

But I'd never drink the stuff. 😀

Zephyr104 Oct 2020 9:02 p.m. PST

I have 2 coffee trees I'm harvesting berries from (they don't all ripen at once.) I expect the first batch of homemade brew won't be that great, but I'll learn… ;-)

skipper John05 Oct 2020 6:37 a.m. PST

Anybody ever tried that "bat crap" stuff?

Deucey Supporting Member of TMP05 Oct 2020 9:02 a.m. PST

No.

Please.

Not 10 rounds of favorite coffee.

Plus about thirty others.

ZULUPAUL Supporting Member of TMP05 Oct 2020 10:53 a.m. PST

Hot don't care about the brand. And black.

Bismarck05 Oct 2020 1:02 p.m. PST

Oberlindes,

I completely forgot about Turkish or Greek Coffee. It has been so so many years. Rate that one right beside my Italian espresso. Thanks for mentioning it. I can close my eyes and still imagine that wonderful aroma and rich sweet taste.

Now I have to find a Middle Eastern restaurant nearby and have a cup!

Ed the Two Hour Wargames guy05 Oct 2020 3:07 p.m. PST

Sumatra, fresh ground in a French Press. 8 oz coffee, 1 oz Carolans.

von Schwartz05 Oct 2020 5:06 p.m. PST

Thank GOD! no one mentioned that over priced swill from Starbucks that they have the gall to refer to as coffee!

Dunkin Donuts is pretty good and, dare I say, McDonalds?

I also had some really good French press coffee at the French restaurant in Epcot.

COL Scott ret08 Oct 2020 7:26 p.m. PST

As long as it is fresh – hot and caffeinated. Came from my years in the Army, some Sergeant will stick a cup in my direction while running night ops and I will drink it. cheap or expensive, light or black, plain or as sweet as the Arabs like. I will drink it.

von Schwartz09 Oct 2020 6:50 p.m. PST

Fresh?!?!? you need it fresh (smile)?

Seriously though when I was young and stupid, I'm older ow, I spent a winter in Northern Minnesota timber cruising and cutting. We had an old black pot which we would stuff with snow (trying to avoid using any of the yellow snow) throw in a couple handfuls of coffee grounds and throw it on a slash fire until noon when we would take it off and slice off a few pieces to have with lunch.
