Can the popular set of rules cover the "Age of Rifles" (ie 1860-1914) with a Supplemental book or would it be too difficult to bend the rules of this period due to longer firearm and arty ranges, and other reasons?

Black Powder has supplements covering several British colonial campaigns. Plus there is the ACW supplement. So you should be able to get one of the colonial systems.

Remember, BP is a "toolbox" of rules that can be modded to suit your needs.

I was always in favour of a "Shoot First!" rule, for this period especially.
Units fire before rolling for command. Any unit that fires gets a -1 to command.
This prevents rushing up to close range and getting the first shot in. It also slows down units who get involved in a firefight, so adding a real decision point from a game point of view.

As much as I know it will never happen, I'd love to see a Franco-Prussian Campaign book for BP.

Well… the Perrys recently revealed they'll be releasing a FPW range, so since they're very close to the BP guys and seem to game with them pretty often… never say never! When those figures are released you may at least get a FPW/Black Powder magazine article, no doubt illustrated with some very nice pics.

Oh my goodness! That is excellent news Guru! I'd love to paint up and game battle of St. Privat.
