Spofforth Castle was a fortified manor house which belonged to the Percys from the early years of the Norman Conquest.

Rebuilt in stone it was looted and burned by the Earl of Warwick's men after the Battle of Towton in 1461:

The remaining stone structure occupies an unusual position as it is built into the side of a 12 to 15 foot high stone escarpment near a river. This forms one side of the basement level and then part of the floor of the next level up. It might be suitable inspiration for a modelling project.

No more Wars of the Roses for the time being but – in the future – there will be photographs of the tomb of Henry Percy, 4th Earl of Northumberland, the very one who failed to support Richard III at Bosworth.
