Was there two years ago. Didn't have time for Ft. Jefferson (it's an all day trip). Ft. Zachary Taylor was a nice walk. There is also a memorial at the cemetery for the sailors of the USS Maine buried there.

Looking forward to going again soon!

Thanks for the pics

Thanks! I went to the Hemingway House when I lived down there. Isn't there also a pirate museum nearby with recovered treasure from one of the wrecks?

I enjoyed my time there, even if I'm not what you would call a "party person". Went to the Truman Summer White House there, was like walking into one of my Aunts' homes. Made the mistake of visiting Fort Mortello around noon. Afteroons on Key West are spent in a dark bar with a cool drink (actually most times during the dat are spent that way). There are 3 ACW forts on Key West, Ft. Zackery Taylor, and East and West Fort Mortello. The Mortellos are 100% Civil War built in 1862 and abandoned after the war.

We skipped the Truman Little Whitehouse, but did walk around it. I agree about retreating during the day, we would hole up in a shady pool at the place we stayed.

Trying to imagine living there in a wool uniforms during teh Civil War and cannot phathom it
