Today we made what we feel is the right decision and are announcing that we're unable to give a definite release date for The Sword and The Flame 40th Anniversary edition.

My job with a landscape architect firm was transitioned to a new owner and office time was zero for several weeks while we tried working remotely when we could. We lost 3 clients to Covid early on and several others had to quarantine. We've had no visitors to our home in 6 months except for the maintenance guys from our landlord for a leaky roof. Everyone is wearing masks but then New Orleanians don't find that bad due to our Mardi Gras traditions. Schools reopened in the last two weeks but are using a combination of remote and on-site classes. Universities in the city have had to quarantine students in dorms. Our city is still in Phase 2; restaurants can only be 50%, bars are closed, take-out and is encouraged. We haven't eaten in a restaurant since March 21. This week it was suggested that 40% of our restaurants will not survive.

Since we are a tourist-based economy, unemployment has been devastating to many. Food banks are working constantly, churches and community groups pick up the slack when they can. Donations are down because people are out of work. Christy and I have been regularly donating clothing, furniture and household items to Goodwill and Salvation Army, as well as money when we can to the Red Cross. Which leads me to the three separate hurricanes (Marco, 8/20, Laura 8/27, Sally 9/17) that were predicted to hit the city but didn't. Laura devastated southwestern Louisiana, especially Lake Charles, where my graphics guy's family lives.

Several people involved in TSATF40 have lost family and friends to Covid-19 as well as their regular employment. Our print shop is affected with reduced hours and staff. This is why we're putting TSATF40 on indefinite hold. Many of you have contacted us and we tried to answer as best we could at the time; if we seemed vague, we apologize but this is how it stands right now. I'm not discounting the possibility that it will be fast-tracked sooner rather than later. For those of you who wish your $28.00 USD pre-order to be refunded, just let us know via email with "TSATF40 refund" as the subject.

These are indeed extremely trying times but to paraphrase Rick Blaine in my favorite film, "Casablanca":

"Gamers, I'm no good at being noble, but it doesn't take much to see that the problems of TSATF40's release don't amount to a hill of beans in this crazy world."

Thanks, and stay safe~

Thanks for the info, Lori. Hang in there. It's got to get better some day!

Thank you for not saying "we're all in this together" or that the postponement was for our sake.

Good luck, and please make some sort of announcement if it is eventually released.

Lori, the main thing is that you and yours stay safe and well. For me, I will treasure my copy of TSATF20, that was autographed by Larry.

Stay safe and healthy. Much more important than gaming.

Life frequently gets in the way of playing with toy soldiers.

Dave Jackson Supporting Member of TMP18 Sep 2020 7:54 a.m. PST

ok, well understood. will await my copy when it can be done! Take care of yourself and stay safe.

John the OFM18 Sep 2020 8:38 a.m. PST

Stay safe.
I will certainly order when you are ready.

coopman18 Sep 2020 2:36 p.m. PST

The rules are such a low priority right now, given everything else that is going on. Stay healthy and safe.

I am shocked, shocked, to find out that gaming is going on in here!

The time will come for hobbies to resume, when the existential crises slow down and we return to something more like normal. I hope to see TSATF resume too. Until then… priorities.

Yellow Admiral, I have no intention of waiting for the "existential crises" to slow down before continuing with the hobby. I don't expect to live that long. But I can certainly game without even more editions of commercial rules.

John the OFM18 Sep 2020 8:39 p.m. PST

Well, I consider TSATF the "perfect" set of rules. It works for just about any period.
I am using it for AWI, with "tweaks" both major and minor. But the core mechanism remains intact.
Having said that, I think I owe it to Larry's legacy to see what he had in mind for the continuation.
It's not "chasing editions and codices", like mind numbed …. you know who. This isn't grubbing for more money, like ….. you know who.
This is to see what Larry had in mind, may he Rest In Peace.
I will get it when Lori feels it can be put out.

Lori,

Whenever you can get to it. Rick Blaine had it right.

Lori,

I'm onboard with what others have said. Get to it when you get to it. I would sooner have a proper copy then something rushed thru.

Thanks,

Vince

Lori and Christy, be well and stay healthy! That's all that matters at this point. We've all be affected, some more so than others. Florida is a tourist economy as well, but no where near so as y'all. If there's anything at all I can do to help you guys please don't hesitate to reach out. We can wait indefinitely if need be…the 20th is awesome, on to the 50th anniversary.

I'm sure it's the right call. Take care of yourselves and we'll see TSATF 40th when the right time comes.

- Rick Blaine: "I never make plans that far ahead."

Meanwhile, "we'll always have Paris/TSATF 25th edition."

Hi
It's been almost 5 months since the last update. Anything new?

If this is any help, I live in the same state, and our governor has kept us in a modified phase 2 for covid. It gets very old.

I think we all are learning more patience than we want to admit.

From another thread today:

"We're having issues with our web-hosting company but should be back up today. And we have slowly begun a reboot of work on TSATF40 with several new tech-graphic-jack-of-all-trades-talented people so thanks for being so patient with us.

Everyone stay safe and warm if you can."

We're back up and running just in time for another hard freeze tonight…….

SgtGuinness01 Mar 2021 8:26 a.m. PST

Im glad to hear you are back in "the great game"! I hope y'all made it through the freeze intact and healthy.

45thdiv10 Mar 2021 5:58 a.m. PST
