I'm putting together a layout around the fighting at Waterloo around the Papelotte farm; does anyone have a source for a detailed map showing the road network, various hedges/fields/trees/forests in order to do a detailed recreation?

I've consulted the Craan Map and it's not very detailed; any sources/ideas?

There were Dutch Belgians/Nassau/Hanoverian troops defending the farm, the French 4th infantry division under Durutte attacked the farm.

The Prussians were also involved later in the day; any cavalry in the area?

Any assistance would be appreciated, TIA……..

Some of the roads are sunk deep with very high banks, at more than up by La Haye Sainte. I may have some photos, where should them and any maps that I might find?

I assume you have trawled this site..

Double thanks BillyNM; anything you come up with, if it's not too much trouble, gguerriero@msn.com works as far as where to send maps and such………….

Double G,

I'm been crawling for five ears toward a similar project. I posted a couple of items on my blog

I have some work-in-progress scenario notes if you are interested. Just send me a private message and I'll flick you the word document. I've also got a fleshed out scenic map (hand drawn sketch) – mostly speculative.

Double G. Having greatly enjoyed all of your various setups over the years, I am really looking forward to this one. 🙂

DG, Papelotte farm is about 60m x 45m. What ground scale are your rules. If for example your rules use 1mm equals 1m then the farm model should be around 2.25"x 1.75".
That's tiny so what I do is use parts of the Hovel models such as La Haye Sainte to represent the building.
It is still over size but not ridiculously so.

I bought the 25/28mm Hovels farm; go big or go home, you won't see any 6mm projects in my wheelhouse……………..

I am interested in your project. I have the Papelotte Farm from Hovels as well.

It was a hard day for the defenders, who took fire from the French and also from the Prussians who mistook the defenders for enemy holding the farm. What a long day for them. However, this created situations ripe for scenarios.

Waterloo Companion is an excellent resource and describes the terrain as poor for cavalry. Artillery would have difficulty, as would formed troops. Skirmishers would be most effective, but of course would not be sufficient to push the defenders out of Papelotte. I look forward to seeing what you develop.

Many years back we did 'off-battle' Waterloo campaign scenarios and I ran a long nite game on this topic. I'll see if i can find my notes, cheers
