"I have to fight spammers daily with their porn posts, snake oil sales and whatever can of crap they are pushing."

I shut off comments on my blog. I can get all the praise and abuse I want here!

My big problem is that too much stuff -- both non-hobby, like work, and hobby-related, like painting -- gets in the way of posting to the blog.

I am on Blogger by Google. They handle the ads, and they are fine, tee shirts, insurance, various stuff.

I do get comments about virus protection, but I have to approve all comments before they post and it's usually only about once a week. Often I go a couple months without any.

I (touch wood) have not had any bad comments from naughty people/bots for several weeks. I religiously marked as 'Spam' all the ones I got, and hope this has had the desired effect!

See it on a few sites I go to. They delete them as fast as they can too.

I moderate my comments on my Blogger blog. I have a very few that I need to mark as spam.

I do get them from time to time and delete them as soon as possible.
But a strange thing happened to one of my blogs when an Indonesian trading site took over my blog address. I was properly peed off and had to change my blog address.
I still get quite a lot of views from Indonesia, I don't think they will be wargamers somehow.

I moderate the comments made on my blog, and put any spam in the spam folder. This seems to ‘teach' the system to recognise regular spammers and spam messages.

Wordpress spam blocker works fine. I have to approve comments as well.

I use wordpress I get lots of odd followers who I'm assuming are trying to boast their own page views

None of them every seem to be into wargaming I was hopeful of one whose blog had the word models in it turned out his sort of models where dressed in fetish gear all tastefully shot in black and white …I blocked him.
