How prevalent was the wearing of the greatcoat in action for the British? It seems the Russians pretty much wore it throughout regardless of season. Did the British only wear them in the colder times? Only certain units?

Trying to figure out if I should purchase British all in greatcoats, none in greatcoats or a mix of both. Greatcoats are easier to paint, the jackets are more colorful so I figure the deciding factor would be what was the more common wear…

IIRC the great coats were shipped with the baggage and weren't there in time for the Alma. The Thin Red line at Balaklava is sans greatcoats and there not much other infantry involvment. British infantry at Inkerman are all shown in greatcoats.

Thanks so much. I really appreciate the feedback. I ordered some guides but wanted to get my figure order in ASAP. I figured I'd ope with 2 out of 3 and went sans coats.
