…filmed in Xinjiang. "Disney's Mulan remake is facing fresh boycott calls after it emerged some of the blockbuster's scenes were filmed in China's Xinjiang, where widespread rights abuses against the region's Muslim population have been widely documented. The lavish US$200 million film about a legendary female Chinese warrior was already tangled in political controversy after star Liu Yifei voiced support for Hong Kong's police as they cracked down on anti-government protests last year. But the latest furore exploded as soon as the credits stopped rolling after the movie began showing on the Disney+ channel last week…" Main page link Amicalement Armand |

I'm more pissed on Disney+ not showing the movie! |

What ruins Mulan for me is my suspicion that the creators will sway too far from the original tale's ancient themes of "filial piety", and be too firmly rooted in post-modernism. Isn't there also some concern with the actress condemning the Hong Kong protest movement? |

I think it is time to defrost Walt's head and attach it to a robot body, so that he can open up a major can of "wup-a**" on the Disney executives and restore the company's original goal of providing wholesome family entertainment. My family and I enjoy Disney world and the old classic movies. We need to leave well enough alone. |

Disney's decision making seems to be highly questionable of late, with real economic consequences for its shareholders. |

A) People are upset about something?…wow that never happens. B) Is anyone wargaming Mulan? Or is this completely irrelevant to this forum? |

The reviews I've seen so far seem to suggest that you would be better of boycotting it because it seems to be a dud rather than any political reason. |

Why film it in Xinjiang anyway? The original story is set rather further east. |

@buzzard keeper Is anyone wargaming Mulan? Or is this completely irrelevant to this forum? Isn't this flick about a chick who joins the army for some reason? She'll actually be a soldier rather than just playing with toy ones. PS. You may be committing an offence against the RSPCA – Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981 |
