Original owners intentions not known, but I am unable to locate any regiment with such a flag or colouration from my own resources. It is a hand painted Hinchliffe models paper standard (ie colour in) from the 70's. It was connected to a late war Grenadier, but this may not be relevant at all. Can anyone idenify or suggest a probable regiment?

It appears to be a grenadier company standard from one of the battalions in the Neva Regiment. Looking at the crown and gold leaf in the corners its probably from after 1813. |

Ok thanks. I'm not sure the coloring is relevant/accurate, what with the centre not being black either like earlier designs, but if there is a tie in somewhere, then I guess it's heading to the 'late wars' field. Cheers dave **Hopefully the 'Topic' gets revised by Admins** |

From the NapFlags web site: Neva Regiment 1797: link As part of the Finland Inspectorate in 1803: link By 1813, all regiments were supposed to have the "green" flag but whether Neva used it I do not know. link But there are others who are much more knowledgeable about Russian flags who will probably respond with better information. Thanks Jim. Silly how often we use web sites and then they don't jump out at us when we need them. These units are strictly 'for appearances sake' and no effort at all to ensure accuracy or realism. See, I can let go when I need to ;-] cheers dave |

I have never heard that all regiments were supposed to have green flags by 1813. Is there a source for this? |

His link- see: link under 'The 1813 Line Infantry Pattern'. In essence they stopped issuing any 'white' (premium) flags- and all the rest were 'green crosses' like the St.Georges flags handed out since 1806, so kind of a PR job if you ask me. "From August 1814 the white flags were abolished…" In late 1813 the Guard got the same, except yellow crosses on green field. Keith Over more or less corroborates this confused mess. Simple answer is (like other models)- check for what happened, and if no new issue is cited to a regiment, previous flags carried on! My original request was about the flag as made by someone else, painted of course to the single design used by Hinchliffe, so the result is to be expected. It goes with a bunch of dusty old figures I now will augment as required to get them into action. Clearly the late troops need some, so no problem that a battalion will keep a flag that 'appears' to be n early model than it is. d |
