I acquired a six DVD set of the movies and series, so I started watching it a few days ago. One of my childhood memories is of my dad watching this show. It scared the crap out of me as a kid and, 45 years later, it is still a little freaky.

JLA10504 Sep 2020 6:38 a.m. PST

I remember watching that show whenever it came on TV. It became one of my childhood favorites.

skipper John04 Sep 2020 6:39 a.m. PST

I remember this. Enjoyable show and I never missed a single one. In fact my wife and I still use a word from it when moving through low hanging foliage… PARAMAFAYE!

One of the shows I loved but never got to watch very often.

Disco Joe04 Sep 2020 6:55 a.m. PST

I really enjoyed that show and looked forward to the next week's episode.

Loved it !!

Choctaw04 Sep 2020 7:51 a.m. PST

I thought it was a great series.

Irish Marine04 Sep 2020 8:31 a.m. PST

I watched I believe Sunday night when I was little or it could have been Friday night, still a great show. The pilot movie was awesome.

Eclectic Wave04 Sep 2020 8:46 a.m. PST

The show was a strange mix of the cliche' and the new. The episode with Indian shaman, who is only in his 30's and is more interested in scoring with woman then being a shaman was great. Or the one with the invisible alien is running around, and then men in black from the government shows up… only they aren't in black. Just regular street clothes, the black suits hadn't made it into the meme yet.

And don't forget the laughs of all the "Chicago" locations that have palm tree growing outside them.

My wife and I, love that show.

dapeters04 Sep 2020 8:48 a.m. PST

when I was Kid I loved it

One of my favorites when I was a kid. It was on Netflix a few years back and I watched through it with my own kids. Still freaky.

To bring it down to gaming terms:

I didn't even think of that; I have that pack of figures.

This may have changed over the last few years, but the original movie still holds the ratings record with a 48 share, which is unheard of today. The Spanish Moss Murders was my favorite episode with the Père Malfait monster.

Andrew Walters04 Sep 2020 10:12 a.m. PST

It was on Netflix for a while and I saw a few episodes. I would still watch it from time to time, but it's gone from Netflix. Maybe it will be back some day, I hope so.

I watched it as a kid -- scared the crap out of me! Watched the entire series, in order, a few years back, when it was on Netflix. It withstood the test of time. Still scary, still fun to watch.

I grew up in the 1970's. It was a blast to see 'new' versions of the cars of that period. Re-united with some of my favorite actors from that period, as well. Nice to see them so young. It was really a trip to watch it again, and to see every episode, in order…

Star Trek: the Original Series, is the same, for me. I was too young when it was broadcast, but I watched every episode I could, in the 70's. Thanks to Netflix, I have been able to watch every single episode, in order… Re-visited Lost in Space, on Netflix, as well. It really was nice to see every episode, in the different series, in their proper order. Netflix made several childhood dreams come true. Cheers!

In the same vein --I also really enjoyed Friday the 13th -- the TV series.

Agree with the above – also found this scary as all get go as a kid! I can remember my parents let me watch the first Star Trek episode, but that was it until I got older

I have the entire collection as well. :)

Great show, many of the episodes are on youtube. Darren McGavin was awesome in the role – loved him in A Christmas Story too.

Major B04 Sep 2020 11:43 a.m. PST

Had major nightmares about the creature in the sewer. Watched most of the series while vacationing at the river a year ago. Decided against watching that creepy episode.

Creative and low budget show that I truly enjoyed and still do on occasion

15mm and 28mm Fanatik04 Sep 2020 1:04 p.m. PST

Being a horror aficionado I binge-watched this and its contemporary 'The Night Gallery' about 5 years ago. Pretty tame by today's standards but interesting nonetheless as a study of how the genre has evolved over the decades on the small screen.

+1 Russ I too am a fan of Friday the 13th TV series! As well as Star Trek & Kolchak

Rudysnelson04 Sep 2020 1:44 p.m. PST

I always enjoyed the show.

Saxondog04 Sep 2020 2:23 p.m. PST

Found it on one of the channels surfing through my Roku directory…watched an episode two days ago. Still fun to watch.

mghFond04 Sep 2020 2:25 p.m. PST

Enjoyed the show a lot but the best was the original movie length pilot!

14Bore Supporting Member of TMP04 Sep 2020 3:03 p.m. PST

Use to watch it when it was new, don't think seen a episode since in a rerun.

JMcCarroll04 Sep 2020 3:19 p.m. PST

Loved it as a kid. Friday nights.

Thresher0104 Sep 2020 4:09 p.m. PST

Ah, I fondly remember some of the episodes.

They seemed so much better back in the day. They've lost a bit of their charm over the decades, but still worth watching.

The haunted knight episode is one I remember pretty clearly. Lots of others too, with some better than the others.

They were recently on one of the cable channels here, in the last year or so. Not sure if they are still running or not.

Howler04 Sep 2020 5:23 p.m. PST

Great tv show. those were the days

Gray Bear04 Sep 2020 6:37 p.m. PST

The show seemed to start as a horror series but soon morphed into pure camp. Perhaps there are only so many monsters one reporter can reasonably encounter in a lifetime. An absurd example of where episodes devolved was the "headless" motorcycle driver wielding a samurai sword. It was evident the actor had his head tucked into an elongated shirt. Quite funny actually.

Haven't thought of that show in a long time. I'll have to look for it on streaming services.

PzGeneral04 Sep 2020 9:07 p.m. PST

SyFy Now app has it for free. I watch it through our Fire Stick….

I wonder if my Grandkids will enjoy it as I did when I was their age….? old fart

SgtGuinness05 Sep 2020 7:02 a.m. PST

I used to love that show as a kid!!! It was awesome.

Sigwald05 Sep 2020 7:58 a.m. PST

One of my favorite shows as well. I remember a movie called the Norliss tapes came out maybe a year earlier on TV and also scared the heck out of me.

May depend on your provider but NBC link also has all 20 Kolchak episodes online.

After that original movie I slept with a crucifix and a hunting knife with the lights on! Loved it and the series! I recently bought the blue ray versions.

You can find 28mm figures of Carl Kolchak (Kyle WojaK} and Tony Vincenzo (Tony Lorenzo) at Bob Murch's Pulp Figures. I would watch it with my Dad and brothers. I still try to catch it on a retro station when available. The Chronicle was a 2001 series on the Sci-Fi channel that was in a similar vein. They ran the stories Tony Vincenzo wouldn't.

John, great advice!

Thresher0105 Sep 2020 6:04 p.m. PST

There's another episode coming 9/13, on MeTV, late night, I think, so best to record it.

A "modern day" Jack the Ripper type is haunting Chicago.

Buck21505 Sep 2020 6:40 p.m. PST

Loved that show as a kid, too, and now have the series on DVD, as well as a couple of the comic books I found at Half Price Books. This show did inspire and influence "The X-Files", as well…

JimSelzer06 Sep 2020 10:49 p.m. PST

I loved this as a kid Friday Night staple in central Illinois just before watching channel 4 Indianapolis Nightmare Theater great way to spend my preteen not yet a gamer years

Bede1900207 Sep 2020 8:29 a.m. PST

Great show.

UltraOrk07 Sep 2020 2:21 p.m. PST

Loved that show as a kid. The zombie waking up as he's sewing the mouth shut was unbelieveably scary. Loved IT!

Got all my anti-monster tips growing up from this show.

Nick or some network had it on a year or so ago as part of a "Brilliant But Cancelled" series of shows. Very appropriate title.

The Tin Dictator07 Sep 2020 6:25 p.m. PST

I think I watched every episode back in the day.
Later when I watched X-Files it reminded me of The Night Stalker.
When I said that to the kids they gave me the confused deer-in-the-headlights look.
