This might be an excellent book to buy. The only problem with a group of authors contributing to the book is that it might not present the chapters as scholarly as possible.

Whenever I see a book like this, I always wonder if the editors say "OK. That's enough. We have 10."

I believe that chapters are assigned by asking a historian if they are interested.

The length is usually decided by the editor/publisher. Ten seems to be the accepted length.
