Were any of the French troops at Salamanca (Obviously, July of 1812) sporting the 1812 uniforms? Thanks! |

Very unlikely. Most had been in Spain for a very long time at the end of a very long and tenuous supply line. Also the 1812 regulations had not long been published so production of the new uniforms had only just started. Old pattern supplies were still being run down. Generally speaking, you probably would not see the new patterns until mid to late 1813. Having said that, if you only have figures in post 1812 uniforms then you can take a relaxed attitude and put them on the table and do not count the buttons! It is the game that counts. |

Real question is did the Bardin uniform ever make it to Spain? |

I would not be surprised if it did not en masse. However, I am sure some new recruits and reinforcements probably had it in late 1813 and onwards. |

Remember too, at that time you got new uniforms when the old ones wore out. You didn't order up an army's worth of new unis just because you got a memo from HQ. So even in 1813 you'd have some in the new, some in the old. My French happily time travel from 1805 to 1815 in their 1809 unis. I'm not painting multiple French armies. Same for the rest. If i ever play Waterloo, my British will be on stovepipes… |

After Massena left and Marmont took command, Gates says he paid the troops (in arrears), rested, refit and reorganized the army. He probably brought a large war chest and supplies for the broken army. Maybe 1812+ uniforms as well to refit? |

When Marmont took over, the new uniforms had hardly been authorised in France itself. Any new supplies he brought were probably old-style uniforms. |

You have more chance of finding the 1807 white uniforms in 1 or 2 regiments. |

No Bardin uniforms at Salamanca |

Bardin uniforms 1813 summer armistice for Grande Armee in Germany- and even then not all of them apparently. Agree with v W- none at Salamanca. Troops in Spain/Southern France were rarely issued with the Bardin uniform even by 1813-14 if contemp pictures are any guide. One of the french authorities (can't remember which) suggested that no full regiments in that theatre were issued with the new uniform, but that reinforcements drafts might wear it- giving a mixed appearance to the Regiments. |

My advice? DO NOT WORRY ABOUT IT. If you have units in the Bardin Uniform, you will not be imprisoned. |

Funny thing about this- if you look at the Bucquoy collations, you will see Gardes d'Honneur of interior France, various town and cities, wearing about 1810 onwards a very closely resembling habit to Bardin- square waist level facing coloured lapels, albeit not shortened tails, seems supsicious to me… d |
