Known as Deinosuchus, which means "terrible crocodile" in Greek, this lineage of semiaquatic reptiles certainly lived up to its name. They were among the biggest predators in their watery North American habitats, where they lived between 75 million and 82 million years ago. The Suchidae ( Crocodiles, alligators and caimans ) used to be a far more diverse group in fact – There were tree-climbing species, bipedal running hunters, and even ocean-going monsters who rarely left the sea. |
