Well, 2020 just keeps getting more and more "interesting".

Turns out that those reports from a few months back may have been right after all, since apparently North Korea's "Dear Leader", god, and world's greatest golfer may be in a coma.

Various news reports say he relinquished power to her, and/or she took over due to his being incapacitated. It's not clear which is accurate.

However, it does seem that his sister, who is reportedly far more ruthless than he is, may now be running the country. If so, I doubt NK's "Dear Leader" will survive to regain power.

If he's lucky, and she's feeling kind, she'll probably just smother him with a pillow, and/or poison him.

If he wakes up, and resists the power transition, he may find himself to be the target of one of those AA gun firing squads he was so fond of using against relatives and suspected opponents.

Does North Korea have a 25th Amendment?

Not that I will miss the bastard afterall but…… I wonder how accurate this report is?
Time will tell I guess.

Well he's the Devil we know … she is not … yet … regardless. The Norks continue to be a "problem" to the region and the US. And they continue to get help from the Russian & the PRC.

If Un passes on to a very hot place 👿 South.🙏 His sister may even be more of a threat. Frankly, I'd be willing to hope he goes South. 🔥😈 And see if his sister is any different. But I doubt it …

John the OFM +1 But remember, we have a 25th Amendment and have failed to use it.

Though I wouldn't give much for her long term survival … AFAIKT NK looks very much like its wedged somewhere well south of the 1970's societally speaking. And I'm not entirely sure how well all those medal bedecked old generals who underpin the 'establishment' will take orders from female CiC. It looks like the regime made some initial changes to equalise the position of women in society, as any good "socialist" country should, but it all looks pretty surficial.

If true the absence of a clear succession make it look like a classic situation, for what is a feudal power transfer, to go seriously south. Though unless caught on the hop China will no doubt step in to "arbitrate" before things get out of hand.

Speculation is fun, but at this point anything could happen.

Generals kill KJU, blame KYJ, arrest her, take over.

KJU dies, KYJ isn't certain she can maintain control herself, they keep him "alive" on machines (I understand DPRK has the best medical system in the world) like the Emperor of Mankind in 40K.

KJU recovers, his sister has started to secure her position and is now a threat, he throws her in jail.

There could be outright conflict between the "his" and "hers" factions, with him conscious or not.

He may be long dead and she is creating and using the uncertainty to secure her position.

There is virtually no law other than force and we have so little information (and possible a heaping helping of disinformation) so it's absolutely anyone's guess.

Great start for a Traveller scenario.

By all accounts she makes kim look like a real softie. So if possible, and she is in fact in charge, NK just became even more brutal and repressive,

"Does North Korea have a 25th Amendment?".

I doubt it, though they do have 23mm quad AA guns and are not afraid to use them against people in a firing squad line-yup, reportedly, so that effectively works out with the same end result.

Yea, I'm not sure I'd count on the top generals being totally for women's suffrage. She is the last in the line of the direct family, alive and conscious though, supposedly – Kim had his half-brother executed by two poison wielding assassins at an overseas, international airport a few years back (another great Traveller scenario – just make it a spaceport, or starport, instead).

I think there were a few, older, great uncles, or similar, but at least one or two of those met the firing squad, if I recall correctly too. I guess they could step in to take control, if needed.

There might be some other bit players in the military leadership who may want to make a play for becoming the next god for the masses too. I'm sure there are any number of guys willing to step in to fill the void, when called upon by their countrymen to do just that.

I tend to believe the reports, since a year or two ago Tucker Carlson of Fox News was on the border when the "Dear Leader" and living god, met with Trump. He was able to observe him up close and noted at the time that it appeared he was walking very slowly, and had very labored breathing. Apparently, he is/was a heavy smoker too, which combined with his excess weight and the virus would certainly put him in the "at risk" category, even before the whole Covid crisis.

The previous bout of hiding, and then coming out, as well as this incidence seem to lend credence to the reports he's in a bad way, if even still alive. I'll note too that we haven't heard any belligerent pronouncements from him, or seen him of late meeting with others either.

Yep, makes for a great Traveller, and/or 007 Spy RPG scenario, or four.

1. Determine if he is he dead or dying.

2. Finish him off if he isn't, OR rescue him from his murderous sister, and get him out of the country safely to create a government in exile.

3. Infiltrate the country, whack him and seduce her.

4. Infiltrate the country, make arrangements with the generals to take over and make peace, then whack them both to clear the way for that. Inject them both with the Wuhan Virus to provide plausible deniability for the masses.

Of course, there could be many other permutations too.

Yep, it will be "interesting" to see how this plays out. Looks like the olde, Chinese curse, "may you live in interesting times" is definitely in play for 2020, and perhaps beyond.

I'm afraid those of you expecting some juicy "Game of Thrones" bloody political succession intrigue will be disappointed. From most accounts he and little sis are pretty close so it may well be a smooth transition. Even if he doesn't croak from his bad heart he may cede his authority to her and enter retirement. He's more interested in watching the NBA than playing dictator anyway.

Frankly I don't think it will matter much if they have a 25th Amendment or not. In a criminal communist dictatorship like the Norks have. It's good to be king.

Even if it takes a few problems to be "removed" … 25th Amendment or not. They are much more like gangsters/the mob. Than actual legit governmental leaders. Do they even have free elections ? I'm pretty sure we all know that answer.

arealdeadone25 Aug 2020 4:33 p.m. PST

I'd fear the sister more than any of the male line. Ambitious women are a scary thing…

Apparently Un appeared at politburo meeting on Tuesday according to the BBC. Rumours of his poor state of health are clearly exaggerated. He was filmed smoking a cigarette, I assume perversely part of the theatre to demonstrate his roaringly good health, so there is still hope he might finish himself off in the longer term!

But apparently the recent extreme weather events and high annual rainfall have trashing the harvest. Leaving the already parlous state of NKs food security something like the closing scene of the Italian job.
