I put on my first 'big' SYW game in my wargames room (aka garage) a week ago. The other guys encouraged me to post some pictures and a simple report to share with others.

We used the simple, but fun, Der Alte Fritz rules from Fife and Drum. They work well for multiplayer games as they are so quick to pick up and any gaps can be worked out as we go.

Beautiful looking game. It shows the SYW at its finest. I hope that you enjoyed the rules.

Always nice to see 28mm figures in mass (including Bosniaken too, I note!)

Great job!!! Good looking figures.

Does this rule set permit pass-through fire? Russian artillery, with Russian heavy cavalry massed immediately behind, would – in real life – be a magnificient bloody target!

Great AAR and thanks for posting – fantastic minis especially en masse

I also see that you have that most colourful of Prussian regiments, FR 40 – my personal favourite!

Thanks for all the comments!

Jim – Yes, your rules are fun and capture period nicely. I use your AWI rules and my Napoleonic variant quite often.

GdeP – It would be a juicy target! Bounce through rules aren't mentioned but it would be easy to add.

Frederick – IR40 is a favourite of mine, too! Rose pink is a striking colour.

I don't use bounce through rules given that ground scale depth is distorted so the battalion would be deeper than it appears. On the other hand, my rules are very easy to amend and add new complications to suit one's taste.

I saw this on a recent link and decided I would rather complement the original poster and not "you know who's" link.

Awesome figures, stunning terrain. I like how you have included that background photo to cover up world beyond the table.

Very Nice! Thanks so much for sharing.

I have a question for De Alte Fritz. I have a copy of these rules and I would love to try them out, are they written for 28mm or will they work for any scale, such as 15s? Should I halve the Movement and Fire distances?

Nice, and more so! And I appreciate all the photos.

I didn't realise this thread still had legs.
Thanks for the comments.

@Korvessa – it is a 3-piece railway background that looked generic enough.

@von Schwartz ver 2 – You could try contacting the author directly.
