"22 Civil War books that I have written to date. 1 Underground Railroad book. 6 miniature wargaming books. 6,193 Civil War books from my inventory sold and signed in person at my frequent lectures and PowerPoint talks in the past 10 years. Thousands of books sold by book retailers and amazon. 67,000 miles on my Buick in six years just to give talks in 17 different states from Maine to Texas. The Legion of Honor for the Historical Miniature Gamijng Society. Some amazing friends. Two sons who are college history professors. A deep love for Civil War history that I am trying to pass down now to my six grandkids…"

I got a Marx Civil War set for Christmas in 1966 that started me into wargaming and miniatures collecting. I also loved those American Heritage Civil War battle maps. Still have the book to this day.

That and the American Revolution book! Stared at them for hours.

My mom told me I was going to go blind I had my eyes so close to the page checking out those maps.

Agreed. I was reading those books and loving those maps in 2nd or 3rd grade. I still have both books. Those figs are awesome and still look great today! Many battles were fought when I was a kid. I made sure my son got a Fort Apache set when he was a kid. Those Marx sets were the IT toy for young boys! Catalogs displayed all that eye candy!

Thanks,

John

Yes! Yes! Yes! The Marx playsets (always advertised on the last pages of the Sears Christmas Wishbook), David Greenspan's incredible illustrations, and The Confederama in Chattanooga, Tennessee (not shown above). The hook was set deeply and permanently. Such wonderful memories.

Thank you, Armand. This thread is special.

I loved the maps in the American Heritage books. My friends and I used to try to replicate the action using Airfix ACW figures. I still have the books, but I sold the figures many years ago.
