Anyone else's blog getting bombarded by spam bot comments lately? |
Herkybird | 14 Aug 2020 5:46 a.m. PST |
Indeed! I have noticed a similarity in other folks blogs too, usually trying to get you to click on a link to a security program (Norton and Mcafee, so far) I am going to mark such posts as Spam and this should hopefully stop this unwanted doo-does. |

Marking them as spam does nothing. This has been a huge ongoing problem for several months. Google is well aware of it but has done nothing. Blogs are the bottom of their priority list. See the Blogger help forums for all the complaints. You will have to moderate all comments and deal with it that way, but expect to get spammed. Just be careful not to click on the spam links when rejecting the posts especially if using mobile. For the past 10 years I have a moderately popular blog that doesn't deal with gaming. I've had to turn off ('hide') comments. It just got too much. The bots all use Google accounts. |

As above. marking as spam doesn´t do anything I´ve a regular from macafee. Binned it as spam but it still turns up in. Again, as above, moderate the comments. |

I've moderated comments on my blog for a while now after finding some dodgy URLs on a comment from last year. |

Started moderating all comments today. Glad (in a way) I am not the only one being hit. |

Loads from MacAfee. Considering this is a company that prides itself on anti-spam ware. It a little ironic that most of my spam is from MacAfee! Not a very good advert for their products in fact given the spam I've been receiving – I would recommend everyone to boycott their products. If they can't control their own agents – why would you bother buying an anti spam ware product from them? Tony |

I turned off comments on my Blogger blog. People I want to hear from know how to reach me, including via this site. |

According to Go-MacAfee, they are an anti-virus company but all of my spam is coming from them (daily posts) – as I've said before not a good advert for a company that wants you to buy anti Spam software! In fact the exact opposite. Tony |

I wonder if the spammers are spoofing MacAfee… |

Odd, my least favorite virtual friends from Ukraine and Italy have been quiet the last month. One or two spam comments out of a dozen is pretty darn good nowadays. Heck, I even thought I found a bot from Japan, but it was odd fellow who found my blog and was reading each post individually and in chronological order. I'll be waiting for the MacAfee bots with baited breath. They'll show up eventually. |

Sshhh! Don't say anything, but the Spam posts seem to have stopped! Maybe Mrs Mcafee or Mr Norton have finally acted? |
Herkybird | 17 Aug 2020 2:25 p.m. PST |
AAGH! I did have to open my big mouth, I noticed another blog got a hit today from a bot!!!! |

Can you FWD it to MacAfee (or Norton)? Maybe if enough people send them the-spam-in-their-name they'll do something about it… ;-) |
