"The Army is launching an accelerated effort to find commercially-available technologies to provide new and enhanced capabilities for the service's arsenal of soldier-wielded weapons.

Army Contracting Command in mid-July issued a solicitation on behalf of PEO Soldier's Program Manager Soldier Lethality (PM SL) for a Innovative Designs & Engineering Assessment (IDEA) Program that's intended to identify "new, innovative, enabling technologies that can generate new capabilities or provide enhanced capabilities."

Those capabilities will broadly apply to "the Army's portfolio of small and medium caliber weapons, Next Generation Squad Weapons, fire control, optics, binoculars, remote weapons stations, suppressors, powered rails, barrel life enhancements, externally powered systems, recoilless rifles, ammunition, or other accessories," according to the solicitation…"

Sounds like time to reverse course, and buy some of the shoulder-fired, AGLs, with the settable proximity fuses for killing bad guys hiding behind, or in hard cover.

One or two little accidents shouldn't kill a very promising weapon.
