All,

I've got a hankering to play some 4th Marine Brigade actions in WWI using Pendraken 10mm minis.

Can anyone point me to a/some book(s) that is super-detailed and thorough on the above two battles? I'm looking for scenarios, so I'd really like descriptions of actions down at least to company level, with dates, times, forces committed, casualties, objectives, maps, and key terrain.

Do such books exist? If you're aware and able to point me in the right direction I'd greatly appreciate it.

V/R,
Jack

There is an amazing WW1 podcast series out there on the net which devotes several episodes to just those battles. Very detailed.

I dont have the url now but if you just google around for military history podcasts it should come up.

The United States Army Center for Military History has published the official history online. You can access the details of Château Thièrry here:

Just follow the chapter link to Belleau Wood for that action.

Here is the ePub downloadable version American Armies and Battlefields in Europe, which covers the whole of WW1 from a US perspective:

Not the 4th Marine Brigade but if you want lots of historic actions to recreate try 'Infantry in Battle', Washington DC, The Infantry Journal .Inc published in 1934 by Garrett & Massie. This was a tactical primer for the infantry and consists of nothing other than lots (I mean lots) of lessons illustrated by WW1 actions many, but not all, of which are by US Forces.

Thanks everyone, I greatly appreciate your assistance!

I hadn't really thought of online resources, much less podcasts, so that's particularly eye-opening, thanks! Unit histories should be right up my alley; while not exciting, I'm not reading for fun, I need stats, so those should do nicely. The various books will hopefully give me the requisite excitement ;)

Thanks again!

Jack

Jack,
Here is the book: link

WWI History: PDF link

Don't forget Dan Daley, Machine Gun Company with 3/6. Capt Lloyd Williams of 2/5 is the one that said, "Retreat hell, we just got here" but was unfortunately killed later in the battle.

S/F and Good luck,
Wolfhag
