Recommendations for wargame rules to game large Crusade battles in 28mm scale? Thank you. |

Soldiers of God is pretty good. Crusades rules that are period specific, and can handle bigger battles. Campaign and seige rules as well. |

We have had fun with historical battle DBA. You can also fight a really great one day 6 player campaign using the regular rules. We have gotten six turns done in one day… Two years in game time with all the battles! Joe Collins |

I played one of the most fun games that I have ever played in at Historicon a couple years ago. It was a Crusader battle using Tactica rules. It was highly enjoyable and came down to the last turn. |

Triumph does a nice job with Crusade battles. Here you can find some nice pictures from our Fall In Hattin Battle. link I also did a replay of this battle to highlight the interaction of lighter armed Cavalry and the knights. Hattin Part 1 YouTube link Hattin Part II YouTube link |

We've used Hail Caeser and it seemed to work well. |

These threads tend to amount to everyone listing their favourite rules (mine: DBMM). If you give some indication of your own preferences (want individual basing, hate cards, or the like) you're more likely to get useful recommendations. |

We just had a series of very fun games using Lion/Dragon Rampant and 6mm miniatures (three multibases to a unit, with markers for hits – once we got half strength one base was removed). In one game my general threw a 3 on 3d6 for the generals trait, making him unworthy. 2 of my 8 units deserted me (again on a 1 on a d6), leaving me mainly with 5 units of light cavalry and one unit of spear vs. an army of 2 knightly units, 2 turkopols and a mixture of 2 spear, crossbow and bow. However, in a reverse of Fortunas favour once those unfaithful traitors were removed from my army the light cavalry did wonders, evading any charge and pickling the unbelievers with arrows in a way that defied any statistic. A narrow win, but considering the start I claim it a major sign of Fortunas favour. Using 6mm makes the battles look like real affairs, and the uncertainty of lion rampant gives you the feeling that even the best laid plans are in gods hand – once an activation fails you turn is off, leading sometimes to situations where you can dance around your enemy, or the other way around – it takes a good plan AND luck to prevail. The sytem is definitely not for tournament or even competetive playstyle, but even an epic fail can result in much laughter on both sides. That said, we also played Impetus last year and enjoyed it. |

Nice idea Puster, but I would go with 15mm. That's what I have and I can see them and the heraldry! Deus vult! |

Another vote for Shattered Lances. Great period specific rules. |
