You were asked to decide – TMP link

Which individuals would you say were 'good guys' in the Second World War?

And in the final round of voting:

14% of the votes: "Audie Murphy"
13%: "James Stewart"
12%: "Dwight David 'Ike' Eisenhower"
11%: "Oskar Schindler"
10%: "General Omar Bradley"

I notice as usual that no other nation other than the US fought on the Allied side in WW2.

Thresher0105 Aug 2020 9:11 a.m. PST

I don't think Oskar was American.

Perhaps I'm wrong though.

newarch05 Aug 2020 10:35 a.m. PST

True. at least that acknowledges that there were some good guys on the other team.

Wolfhag05 Aug 2020 11:08 a.m. PST

How about the poor schmucks that paid for the war by buying war bonds.

I was surprised Churchill didn't make the final cut.

advocate06 Aug 2020 1:11 a.m. PST

Churchill was a real person with many real failings. A great man, but when you're using the term "good guys" it's hardly surprising that the top chaps came from Hollywood.

AFAIK, all the people listed were human beings.

Hence, all had their 'issues'.

DDE – anyone remember Kay Summersby ????

Skarper06 Aug 2020 8:07 a.m. PST

Eisenhower's driver?

Huscarle06 Aug 2020 8:12 a.m. PST

Will there be a Good Gals of WWII poll as well?

Ed Mohrmann Supporting Member of TMP06 Aug 2020 11:38 a.m. PST

"Eisenhower's driver?"

Indeed – that's how she started. Became his
secretary and, according to her, developed a
'close relationship'.

Audie Murphy actually did what was apparantly "impossible American propaganda" according to most viewers of the final scene of the movie "Fury" .

Audie Murphy is the good guy.

UshCha10 Aug 2020 8:22 a.m. PST

Now what about a real hero, not a Hollwood fake AND he is a Brit.

thumbs up

As there were similar "heroes", per se in all armies. Even the Nazi and IJFs I'd imagine. 😲
