"It only took five minutes for Gavin Schmidt to out-speculate me. Schmidt is the director of nasa's Goddard Institute for Space Studies (a.k.a. GISS) a world-class climate-science facility. One day last year, I came to GISS with a far-out proposal. In my work as an astrophysicist, I'd begun researching global warming from an "astrobiological perspective." That meant asking whether any industrial civilization that rises on any planet will, through their own activity, trigger their own version of a climate shift. I was visiting GISS that day hoping to gain some climate science insights and, perhaps, collaborators. That's how I ended up in Gavin's office…"

Obviously the "Repton" aliens of UFO conspiracy fame are evolved raptors who escape the mass extinction event of the Dino Killer asteroid… |

Sure it is. At the Mountains of Madness is one of Lovecraft's most popular stories. " A Miskatonic University professor joins an expedition to Antarctica where the group finds evidence of beings not of this world. Fossils and hieroglyphs discovered by the expedition indicate an alien race from the stars that came to Earth and created beasts called shoggoths as livestock — with the suggestion that life on Earth may have formed from the remains of the making of these creatures." link |

If there was a previous civlization, it most probably occupied the coastlines during the last ice age, which means the remains are now hundreds of feet underwater… ;-) |

Etothepi snarked - Has there been civilized behaviour on Earth since humans? Depends what you mena by "civilization" I guess. If you mena groups living in societies without theft, infidelity, incest, casual murder, cannibilism, rape, pedophilia and so forth, the answer is no. All those behaviours can be found among animal species and probably always have been, notably ducks, sealions, chimpanzees and so forth. Humans have at least developed a disatste for all of them in general and devoted mush time and feffort into ccombatting them, even though the spectrum of behaviours exist in all humans, which leads to the one unique featuire of huamnity; Hypocrisy. Of course, that might be my bias speaking; I live in a realtively civilised country, while most of you don't appear to. And we aren't all dead of Coviod19 despite the news. |
