"Whether a story unfolds in our own galaxy or one far, far away, space makes a great setting for film. But which space movies are truly out of this world?…"

A space movie list and the oldest movie is 1968? And most of them are 10 years old or less?

Forbidden Planet

Rocketship X-M

The Day the Earth Stood Still

Destination Moon

The Thing from Another World

The War of the Worlds

This Island Earth

So many more.

All American movies on this list, none of the Russian movies such as Solaris for a start. How the hell does Independence Day & Spaceballs make the list of the 25 best?

Bunkermeister has some great ones.

I would also add:
Silent Running
The Thing (1980)

Thresher0104 Aug 2020 7:27 a.m. PST

Invasion UFO – the movie made from/for the TV series by splicing together scenes from the one hour shows.

Alien and Aliens.

Predator and Predators.

Lots of others too, that you are no doubt familiar with already.

Spaceballs should NOT be on the list.

Solaris was interesting.

Life.

"Where is Ice Pirates?".

At the local "Disney on Ice" theater/ice rink?

"Best Space movie" implies the movie is set in "space"; zero g (micro gravity actually), no atmosphere, long distances. The first movie to come to mind is "2001: A Space Odyssey".

But for pure (unscientific) joy; I'll go with the original Star Wars.
