Suprising amount of US Army involved in this battle that kept the Marines from being cut out of the post war budget.

The reason was Gen Pershing wanted all new articles concerning the Army to go through him before being sent to the states, but one reporter got around that by simply stating US Marines are not in the Army. So news articles about the Corps got to the states first.
