In reading about the Imperial and Royal Navy, I was intrigued by the statement that Croats composed a large portion of the sailors, which made me wonder: what was the provincial makeup of the Imperial German Navy? I would expect lots of recruits would come from the coastal states, like Pommern, and especially Schleswig-Holstein.

I did read that the navy was the only truly "Imperial German" element in Wilhelmine Germany because it recruited generally and had no state or provincial organisation. This is not to say that coastal Germany did not provide a significant number of personnel.
