"A local survivor of one of the most violent battles in World War II is still around, and he has no problem telling the tale.

Thiele Fred Harvey, 96, served in the island battle as a part of the United States Marine Corps. (At that time, the Marines were part of the U.S. Navy.)

He's had no trouble sharing the stories of what he saw, speaking several times at the National Museum of the Pacific War, the Nimitz Rotary Club and other functions. He's also written a book detailing his life, called "Hell Yes, I'd Do It Again."…"

Ahem, the USMC has never been a part of the USN. It is a separate organization under the Department of the Navy . . . that is different from being "part of the U S Navy."

The USMC is a naval service, not a navy service.
