So, I ordered a battalion pack (B001) from Warfare Miniatures USA. This is my first unit to paint up, so I was wondering if anyone has thoughts and suggestions.

Well, basically, what's a fun first unit to try? (I have BLB 3rd, so I am fine with anything in this interesting campaign arena, Williamite or Jacobite, though it looks like the B001 pack would work best as a regular pike and shot mix, so I lean to something usable in a variety of battles.

My question comes as I review painting guides, pictures, and so on. What's a good starter to just allow me to get a nice unit in place, easier on the newb, etc.?

I'm not very familiar with this period but I would suggest going through the scenarios that are in the rulebook and the ones in the 4Play scenarios. link
and picking a unit that was in multiple battles.

For AWI or ACW I generally pick a campaign and paint from there.

Red coat with green or yellow facings would cover a lot but those blue coated, orange faced Dutchmen are classic.

Same problem with most of us. Which year, which Army, which Battle?
Look through their Painting Guides and pick one that looks interesting. I don't know much about it but Aughrim had contingents from at least 5 nationalities. Same with the Boyne.
Good hunting.

Good ideas. I should look over the scenarios for commons to give some flexibility.

Meanwhile I seek to "wrangle" a couple neighbors with mild interests. We will see about coordinating.
