So, I ordered a battalion pack (B001) from Warfare Miniatures USA. This is my first unit to paint up, so I was wondering if anyone has thoughts and suggestions. Well, basically, what's a fun first unit to try? (I have BLB 3rd, so I am fine with anything in this interesting campaign arena, Williamite or Jacobite, though it looks like the B001 pack would work best as a regular pike and shot mix, so I lean to something usable in a variety of battles. link My question comes as I review painting guides, pictures, and so on. What's a good starter to just allow me to get a nice unit in place, easier on the newb, etc.? |

I'm not very familiar with this period but I would suggest going through the scenarios that are in the rulebook and the ones in the 4Play scenarios. link and picking a unit that was in multiple battles. For AWI or ACW I generally pick a campaign and paint from there. Red coat with green or yellow facings would cover a lot but those blue coated, orange faced Dutchmen are classic. |

Same problem with most of us. Which year, which Army, which Battle? Look through their Painting Guides and pick one that looks interesting. I don't know much about it but Aughrim had contingents from at least 5 nationalities. Same with the Boyne. Good hunting. |

Good ideas. I should look over the scenarios for commons to give some flexibility. Meanwhile I seek to "wrangle" a couple neighbors with mild interests. We will see about coordinating. |
