The link is to a WW2 formation, not WW1

Gildas is correct. The 1st Cavalry Division (notice the singular use no matter what the USACMH used) was used as a "leg" infantry division in the Southwest Pacific Area (SWPA) during the campaigns from New Guinea through the Philippines.

Jim (who served in "The First Team" during the 1970s and 1980s)

P.S. I've asked the editors to relink this to the WW2 Land board and change the title to read WW2 instead of WW1.

Jim and I served in the First Cav together in the 1/9 Armored Cavalry Squadron. The heritage of one of the Black Cavalry regiment. Our motto was Real Cav.
Later I also served in the 3/10 battalion another of the Black Cavalry lineage units our motto was Ready Forward.
