What are the major differences between "Frankish Spearmen" and "Gallo-Roman Spearmen"? I'm looking at the Field of Glory Army book but I imagine this is an distinction in many rules.

My basic understanding is that the Gallo-Romans were equipped closer to Late Imperial Romans?

How were these two groups equipped and how did they fight?

This chap – picture – is a drawing taken from a piece of Alamannic silver, and is sometimes thought to represent a Gallo-Roman. Might always be just an unrealistic piece of classicising art, of course.

I'm having trouble guessing what are on his feet.

Almost look like scales(?).

Boots of scale armour – 10 silver pieces, +1 to armour class and +1 to saving throws if stepping on anything.

I would think the biggest difference would be some form of uniformity with Gallo-Romans. Similar shields, tunics or cloaks, maybe.

Language. The Gallo Romans would speak Vulgate Latin, the Franks Frankish.

The Gallo Romans would be staggering around with a bottle of 'Spanada' evil grin
