To what 'dubious schemes' of the Archduke Charles are you referring?

Wellington considered him to be the best of the allied senior commanders.

I'm open to being influenced,koolaid but he seems to have been a royal-political pawn half the time, and a military demi-god at/ to others.

Clausewitz rips the archduke to shreds repeatedly in his analysis of the 1799 campaign. The fiasco of Archduke Charles's abortive operation to cross the Aare is particularly amusing and reads like a badly written wargame scenario. English translations forthcoming:
