I own Don Troiani's 'Soldiers of the American Revolution' and 'Soldiers in America 1774-1865'. Are there enough new color plates in his 'Saratoga' book to make it worth buying?
I own several books on the Saratoga Campaign. So, I do not need any additional 'text' information regarding the campaign itself.

Thank you for your consideration and assistance!

Between the plentiful artwork and the color photos of original artifacts, the book is a visual feast for the eyes. However, I cannot verify how much of Troiani's artwork is new to this book.

Hmmmm.

I might have to get it then.

Get it.

Figures are a purchase.
Books are an investment.

HMS Exeter,

"Get it". Do you mean that this book has enough new artwork to make it worth while to buy? Or You don't know??

Thank you!
Tom S.

He does great work. I have noticed that he does seem to like to publish the same painting in multiple books.

That said, if you have the interest, another book won't hurt.

Colonel Durnford,

Problem is, I have way tooooo many books. Don't really want to purchase any more (anything) unless it is something that I don't have and 'think' I can use.

Thank everybody for their replies.

I feel your pain. I have the same issue with Zulu War books.

Guys, I appreciate your feedback. However, do any of you have his other two books (listed by me above) and able to give me specifics as to the number of 'new' illustrations??

Sincerely,
Tom Semian

I have all his books…but I;m not going to count all the prints…all I will say it is worth purchasing…

Tom, I previously posted "The best way I could describe it is an Osprey Saratoga campaign on steroids. For someone trying to build wargame armies for the Saratoga campaign I would give it a MUST BUY based on Troiani's art work." For someone who already had accumulated a bunch of Troiani Saratoga artwork though is there enough new for you to justify the cost? I don't know. That's going to be a highly subjective call.

So let me suggest a different approach. What are you missing in your existing collections that you hope the Troiani book might provide?

historygamer19 Jul 2020 6:11 a.m. PST

If you have an interest in the campaign, then the book is a must.

AuttieCat19 Jul 2020 11:49 a.m. PST

Got my answer from Don Troiani himself. About 90%, which is good enough for me!

It's a very good book.
