I realized for most people a lot of wargame are rather intimidating so I thought why not just use the simple fun engine. It also gives me a lot of freedom to make armies. The one I have painted is the Viscount Greystoke-Moreau, with Human assistant and three rather vicious animals. Next is the Pinkertons lead by wizard Henry McCoy related to Harry Dresden. Followed by Jack Cain , his dog ,and his vigilante squad (A Lonesome Night in October) |

When I tried this the two issues I had where gunpowder weapons and the wide range of devices the setting deserves. To a certain extent, archery can be used to give a basis for guns with a lot of tweeks for pistols vs rifles vs blunderbuss style guns wth additional traits to allow use and better knowledge. For machinery, a set of simple traits can give some use and the ability to create / modify things – I split devices into ‘types' to cut down the number of traits needed. In the end though, it never really went anywhere and ended up significantly different from SOBH :-( |

It more meant to teach my new group the basics of miniature gaming then move to either IHMN or Rippers. |

There are several games using the SOBH engine that have rules for guns. Flashing Steel does black powder era. Fear and Faith does modern guns. No system works well for everything but SOBH makes sense as an introductory system and is flexible enough for experimenting. Savage Worlds Showdown works well for this too. |

I was trying to limit the types of dice being used to prevent confusion on the part of new players. Did not want to make it to intimidating. It is why did not want to use Savage Worlds. Though I looked at Fistful of Lead with the Horror Supplement. Just SOBH just has the most basic and limits the numbers people need to track. |
