guys
we have all seen the parachute extraction of the m551 sheridan light tank from c130 on internet/youtube/books etc
legion 4 you probably seen it happen up real close during your para days?
here's my question
the british scorpion/scimiter cvr(t) was about same size and a lot lighter so wondering did the british paras ever experiment with parachute extracting this light tank ? from the back of c130 ?

I'm not sure if the UK Paras use LAPES[Low Altitude
Parachute Extraction System]. link

It appears the Canadian Paras used it though … link

IIRC they use the C-130. Being in the 101, '80-'83 I have not seen it in person but we saw films where the LAPES didn't go very well … 😖🙁😖

Sadly it looks like the UK bean counters are taking away the Para Rgt's jump status. Like what happened to the 101 … 😪😞
With this news I doubt they will use LAPSE, if they did at all.

I was fortunate that when I was in the 101 to be award both Parachute and Air Assault Wings … Don't know if that happens too much today ? 🤔

Hence the saying "Air droppable once."

When I was in the 82nd I saw multiple LAPES executed, one was not good with tons of tumbling metal crashing into the pine trees and important bits flying in all directions. Which is why the crew didn't ride inside.
